Job Placement/Cooperative Education

Mission Statement

Butte College Job Placement & Cooperative Education Office (JPCE) aims to educate students in all aspects of the job search process.  We assist students in obtaining employment by providing them with techniques for effective application materials including:  Resumes, cover letters, applications, social media presences, etc.  We also help students prepare for interviews and obtain jobs as well as gain work experience through paid and unpaid internships.  We collaborate with on and off campus employers to best serve the needs of the students, community and Butte College.

Program Description

JPCE assists students in securing career-related and immediate employment in order to gain valuable experience, earn income to support their education, earn academic credit for workplace learning and meet the needs of the labor market.   Staff work with faculty to provide resume and interview related information in classroom settings and work with service area employers to assist in filling the workforce needs.

Strategy 1 - Resources, Awareness and Marketing

  • Continue to promote JPCE awareness (marketing, job fairs, presentations);
  • Implement upgraded hardware and software technology (expected Spring 2019);
  • Continue to attend campus-wide departmental meetings annually;
  • Expand a referral campaign in collaboration with our loyal faculty who already access our services;
  • Collaborate with the Welcome Center to improve Orientation Leaders' knowledge of JPCE services;
  • Continute to increase number of classroom presentations and
  • Continue to increase number of local employers who use our services.

Job Placement and Cooperative Education

  • Participate and provide feedback for state-wide Work-Based Learning pilot program;

Strategy 4 - Collaborate with the new RoadRunner Hub

  • Provide onsite workshops for food and housing insecurites;
  • Federal & ButteWORKs Work-Study referrals so students can meet CalFresh eligibility;
  • Will assist with retention by assisting students with jobs that allow them to afford to stay in school;
  • Better prepare students for the competitive housing market by assisting with housing resumes and
  • Provide additional assistance to students and staff directly impacted by the Camp Fire.

  • Students that are unemployed are also likely eligible for CalFresh and in need of emergency food resources;
  • Helps improve student retention by ensuring basic needs are met;
  • Helping students meet CalFresh eligibility puts money back into the local economy;

Travel and Marketing Funds Additional travel funds are needed to connect with community employers to create volunteer, internship and employment opportunities for students. Travel for staff professional development (conferences). Promotional materials for events, including brochures. Distribute newly created marketing materials in order to attract employers to Butte College and to inform students of our services. An important resource for community partnerships and future student enrollment.
