Multicultural Studies
Mission Statement
The Mission of the Multicultural and Gender Studies program at Butte College is to is to engage students in learning about different cultures, ethnicities and identities and enable students to evaluate the major concepts, theories, and perspectives in this area while acknowledging individual experience, human diversity and the social realm of culture and diverse perspectives while developing skills in analysis, critical thinking and communication.
Program Description
The Multicultural and Gender Studies program provides students with diverse cultural perspectives in a global world. The discipline is an invaluable opportunity for students of all backgrounds and orientations to find a place and viewpoint that validates or expands their understanding of the world community.

Program Review
- Per the recommendation of Program Review, Multicultural Studies has transformed to Multicultural and Gender Studies with an expanded curriculum. A multi-disciplinary team was assembled, with a goal of constructing a major fashioned after CSU Chico.
- New courses titled Arab American Studies and LGBTQ+ studies are now being developed.
- A Full time fauclty hire to guide and direct the program was also recommended.
